SLA, police arrest eight LTTE cadres in Batticaloa

The Sri Lanka Police and Sri Lanka Army (SLA) Monday around 10 p.m. stopped and
searched a LTTE vehicle at the Kallady Bridge in Batticaloa and arrested eight LTTE cadres including four women cadres in the vehicle as they were in possession oftheir personal weapons, security sources said. The LTTE vehicle was taken Kattankudy police station.
Members of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Batticaloa immediately
went to the scene where the LTTE vehicle was seen surrounded by heavily
armed Police and army soldiers, sources said. Later the LTTE vehicle with inmates was taken to Kattankudy police station,
which is about eight km south of Batticaloa town, sources said LTTE vehicle has been detained at the Kattankudy police station, Police
sources said. The eight LTTE cadres are to be produced in Batticaloa magistrates' court
Tuesday on charges under the Offensive Weapons Act . Meanwhile police and army soldiers deployed at key junction in Batticaloa
town Monday night stopped and searched motor vehicles and motorbikes,
police said.
