Tamil book on Trinco’s history released

" Historic Trincomalee," a research book written by Mr.Kanagasabapathy Saravanapavan in Tamil, was released Saturday evening at an event held at the Sri Koneswara Hindu College hall in Trincomalee, and several Tamil academicians said that the book is a timely contribution at a time when parties with vested interests distort the history of the country to suit their agenda, sources said.

Presiding over the event, a leading octogenarian Tamil scholar in Trincomalee, Pundit R.Vadivelu, said that the Portuguese built the Fort Frederick with the ruins of the historic Koneswaram temple in the eastern port town. “If the present Fort Frederick were dismantled it would reveal the pristine glory of the historic Koneswaram temple and the history of Tamils in the country,” he said.

According to historians, the beautiful temple at Konesar Malai (Trincomalee) was demolished by Constantine de SA in 1623 and its delicately sculptured stones and pillars formed the ramparts of Fort Frederick

The Chief Priest of Trincomalee Pathirakali Ambala Temple, 'Vethakamamani' Sri S.Ravichandrakurukkal, released the first copy of the book by handing it over to Mr.T.Manojkumar.

The Principal of the Koneswara Hindu College, Mr.S.Thandauthapani, said that though several books were written about the Konesar Temple and Trincomalee, the author had done valuable research to bring out the true history of Tamils in the country.

The author, Mr Saravanapavan, and several others also spoke at the event.
