Delft local authority to pay SLN's telephone arrears

Sri Lanka Telecom Friday disconnected the telephone line to the Delft
Pradeshiya Sabah (PS - village level local authority) in Jaffna district due to
the failure of paying arrears incurred to the PS administration when its
office building was under the control of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), local
government ministry sources said.
The Delft PS administration has now written to the Defence Ministry to pay
the telephone arrears to the Predeshiya Sabah, local government ministry sources said. The SLN handed over the Delft PS office building to the PS administration
after the ceasefire agreement signed by the government and LTTE came into
force in 2002. The SLN failed to pay the telephone bill of one
hundred thousand rupees the SLN used during its occupation, local
government ministry sources said. The telephone number of the Delft PS office is 070-212477. When the Delft PS administration was in the hands of the para military Eelam Peoples Democratic Party (EPDP) the SLN moved into the PS office building, civil sources said Residents of the Delft held sit in protest in front of the PS office building when EPDP cadres entered Delft to recommence their political activities after the ceasefire agreement came
into operation. The EPDP members and SLN left the PS building due to the
protest by residents of Delft,civil sources said.
