Baratha Natya Arangetram held in Trincomalee

The Baratha Natya Arangteram enhances the cultural pride of the Tamil people, said Rev.Sr.M.Threse Ranee, Principal of St Mary's College, participating as the chief guest at the Baratha Natya Arangetram of Miss Chandrasekaram Sangeetha, held Sunday evening at the Thresian auditorium at St. Mary’s College in Trincomalee, sources said.

Miss Chandrasekaram, formerly of Trincomalee, is currently a resident of Switzerland, and is a disciple of Ms. Mathivathany Suthakaran, Principal of Thirukoneswaram Nadanalayam in Zurich, Switzerland, sources said.

Rev. Ranee lit the traditional oil lamp and inaugurated the event attended by a large number of people. The Tamil National Alliance parliamentarian, Mr.K.Thurairetnasingham, and other leading citizens of Trincomalee participated.

Trincomalee district parliamentarian Mr.R. Sampanthan said in a message that Miss Chandrasekaram had come all the way from Switzerland to Trincomalee to perform her Arangetram in her native soil.

“The Thirukoneswaram Nadanalayam in Switzerland has been training many students in Dance and Music for several years and has made a significant contributions in developing the talents of young artistes. It is matter of great pleasure to all of us, that this performance is taking place in Trincomalee,” said Mr.Sampanthan in his message.

Mrs. Mathivathany Suthakaran was a teacher at St Mary's College fifteen years ago and held a Diploma in Dance from the University of Jaffna. She lkater moved to Switzerland and started the Thirukoneswaram Nadanalayam there.
