SL Police asks Tamil paramilitaries to avoid unnecessary movements

The Sri Lankan police in Batticaloa have advised the paramilitary Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP), the People’s Liberation Organization of Tamil Eelam (PLOTE) and the Eelam People Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF-Varathar wing) cadres not to move unnecessarily outside their offices in the district, and if there was a serious need to move out, the police would provide security to them, sources said.
The sources said that the police have increased security to the district leaders of these paramilitary groups in Batticaloa and the advice for their members to not move out follows the attack on members of these paramilitary groups in recent times. Observers say there has been no such attack on the paramilitary groups in recent weeks. The groups have limited their movements and their leaders have even moved out of their homes for security reasons, sources said.
