NE provincial Tamil Language day held in Jaffna

Addressing the North East Provincial Tamil Language Day celebration, held Saturday for the first time after several years in Jaffna, Mr. Arun Master, the Deputy Head of the Thamileelam Education Board, said, "Educationists and teachers worked hard to preserve the pristine glory of Tamil language and Tamil culture from being destroyed by enemies during the wartime in the northeast."

Provincial Ministry Education Secretary Mr.R.Thiagalingam was the chief guest. The celebration was held at the Jaffna Hindu Ladies College hall, sources said.

Mr. Arun Master further said a celebration of this nature played a leading role in the development of Tamil language and Tamil culture in the country. Mr.Thiagalingam said that it was a matter of pride to the people to hold the provincial Tamil Language Day celebration in Jaffna this year as Jaffna is considered our cultural town. “At any stage, Tamils should not lose their identity. Celebrations of this nature are held in the northeast to preserve the identity of Tamils and their language and culture,” he said A souvenir titled " KAVIN TAMIL" was released at the celebration. The souvenir’s editor, Mr.N.Anandaraj, Assistant Director of Education, handed over the first copy
of the souvenir to Mr.R.Thiagalingam. At the commencement of the celebration, students of the Jaffna Hindu Ladies College sang the welcome song. Later, prizes were distributed and a variety entertainment followed, sources said.
