K. Ramamoorthy MP, formerly of the EPDP, complained to the Human Rights Commission in Jaffna today that an unidentified group has tried to lob a grenade at him by gaining access into the house of his neighbour in Jaffna town, said sources in the Police.
The neighbour, F. S Jeyaratnam earlier complained to the police of an unidentified group of persons offering to bribe him in order to gain access to his home from where they could attack Mr. Ramamoorthy. Mr. Ramamoorthy and his brother K. Rameshwaran, both Members of Parliament for the Jaffna District from the Eelam Peoples' Democratic Party (EPDP) were expelled by Douglas Devenanda, the leader of the group last year. However they petitioned the Supreme Court against their dismissal and had their claim upheld. Since then they have been functioning independently and fielded their own candidates for the Jaffna local polls in January. They have complained of harassment and a threat to life by the EPDP since they were expelled from the group.
