Mr. Sinnathamby Thambipillai, 38, of Batticaloa, was found dead with head injuries inside a jewelry shop in Kasthuriyar Street in Jaffna town on Sunday night, and he was the third person to die in a jewelry shop in Jaffna mysteriously, Police sources in Jaffna said.
The body of Mr. Thambipillai was lying in the mortuary of the Jaffna Teaching
Hospital, as there was no judicial medical officer to conduct autopsy to
find the cause of death, medical sources said. When the matter was mentioned at the Jaffna Magistrate’s Court Tuesday, the
parties concerned raised suspicion over the death of Thambipillai and
wanted a postmortem held on the body to find the cause of death, legal
sources said. The Jaffna hospital authorities thereafter wanted the court to send the
body for postmortem examination before the Galle Judicial medical Officer,
legal sources said. Now the Police have taken steps to transfer the body from Jaffna to Galle for postmortem examination, legal sources said.
