SLA buried 48,518 mines in Paranthan

During the time the Sri Lanka Army was controlling Paranthan, the Army buried 48,518 land mines in the area, according to information provided to the Humanitarian De-mining Unit by the United Nations Development Plan, HDU sources said.
The sources said that the HDU so far has been able to remove 570 landmines in Paranthan. In the last month alone, the HDU has removed 628 mines in an area of 96,854 square metres in Iyakachchi, Paranthan, Kanagarayankulam, Vettilaikerny, Umaiyalpuram, Mankulam, Pattakadu, Elephant Pass, Puliyankulam and both sides of the A-9 highway.
