The Tamils Rehabilitation Organization Friday afternoon opened a training centre to teach sewing to unemployed girls in Thampalakamam, a traditional Tamil village 24 km off Trincomalee town. At the start, about twenty women have been enrolled to obtain training in the centre, said the Trincomalee Dstrict Director of the TRO, Mr.K.Mathavarajah, speaking at the opening event held at the TRO office in
Thampalakamam.
At the commencement, Mr.Mathavarajah lit the traditional oil lamp. Thereafter the LTTE’s Tampalakamam political head, Mr.S.Thirumalai, declared open the training centre by cutting the ribbon. The LTTE’s Trincomalee district political head, Mr.S.Thilak, later handed over the
scissor and cloth to the teacher in charge of the sewing training centre to
commence work. The TRO’s Tampalakamam head, Mr.S.Nallasviam, presided over a meeting that
followed the opening of the centre. ”Several non-governmental organizations are implementing development projects in the Trincomalee district according to their needs. The TRO has selected projects to cater to the needs of the society. Hence the TRO now has opened a sewing training centre in Thampalakamam village to enable unemployed girls to train themselves in a vocation that could provide income for their livelihood,” said Mr.Mathavarajah.
