STF informant shot dead in Akkaraipattu

A thirty five year old Tamil informant to the Special Task Force of the Sri Lanka Police in Akkaraipattu in the Amparai district was shot dead Saturday evening around six when he was proceeding to his home in a push bicycle through the Sagamam road, Police sources said Satuyrday.

The dead was earlier in the Varathar wing of the Eelam People’s Revolutionary Liberation Front (EPRLF) and later he became an informant to the STF, sources in Akkaraipattu said.

However, the identity of the deceased could not be confirmed.

The informant was shot dead by two gunmen who came in a motorbike using a pistol, the Police said, adding that the body of the deceased was taken to the Akkaraipattu hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem examination.
