The head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Batticaloa district Tuesday held discussions with the fishermen’s representatives in Kattankudy regarding a complaint that unidentified men had robbed them of their boats and fishing gear in sea, sources said.
Kattankudy fishermen had lodged a complaint with the SLMM in Batticaloa district in which they alleged that the unidentified members responsible for robbing their boats and fishing gear in mid-sea last Thursday could be from the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, sources said. However, the fishermen could provide no concrete evidence about the identity of those who robbed them, the sources said. At the discussion, the SLMM head in Batticaloa told the fishermen that as the identity of the robbers was not known, he could not act immediately, but assured them that he would take their complaint seriously and take appropriate action, SLMM sources said.
