SLA distributes handbill to ‘advise’ Jaffna people

The Sri Lanka Army Friday started distributing anonymous handbills in the Jaffna district, stating that the removal of military camps from civilian houses and government buildings would get delayed if the people held demonstrations against relocating camps in abandoned state lands, civil sources said.

The handbill typed in Tamil under the caption "Why this unnecessary demonstration?" addressed to the "Intelligent Jaffna people," states:

" You have got an opportunity to lead a peaceful life under the present peace environment.

" People are now resettling in areas which were abandoned in the past. Government armed forces are also now taking steps to remove their camps from civilian homes and government buildings to assist in the resettlement of the internally displaced people. The government troops are selecting abandoned state lands to relocate their camps once they vacate civilian homes and government buildings.

" Civilians are being induced by some sections to demonstrate against relocating camps in abandoned state lands. We bring to your notice that such demonstration will only delay the removal of camps from civilian homes and government buildings. Army camps have been located in state lands, not only in the Jaffna district, but in the rest of the country as well."
