Thousands join last leg of JVP foot march against IA

The four day 116 km long anti peace foot march which was organized by the
Sinhala nationalist cum Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna (JVP) from Galle
on Monday against the establishment of the Interim Administration for the
northeast province and demanding the de-merger of the province reached
Colombo Lipton circle Thursday around seven in the evening. Thousands of
JVP cadres, men and women participated in the last leg of the march from Panadura
Thursday morning, sources said.
Parliamentarians of the main opposition Peoples Alliance Mr. Anura
Bandaranaike, Mr.Ajantha Zoysa and Mangala Samaraweera and the Western
Provincial Governor Mr.Alavi Moulana participated in the fourth day march,
sources said.

parliamentarian Mr.Wimal Weerawanse and general secretary Mr.Tilvin Silva
spoke at a rally at the conclusion of the march. Mr Anura Bandaranaike said he was participating at the rally on the
instruction of President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge. She has conveyed her
wishes to the campaign through him. He further said within next six months the political alliance of the Sri
Lanka Freedom Party (SLFP) and the Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna would become a
reality and thereafter the present United National Front (UNF)government would
be thrown out of power. JVP parliamentarian Mr.Wimal Weerawanse said that the foot march was
organized to open the eyes of all patriotic citizens and leaders of the
country. He vowed that the proposed political alliance of SLFP-JVP would
be finalized shortly and thereafter the present government would be ousted
from power.
