The Tamil Eelam Vaanoli, the commercial broadcast of the Voice of Tigers said this evening that the Sea Tigers of the Liberation Tigers had attacked the Sri Lankan Navy's (SLN) positions in Kilaly in Jaffna in the early hours of the morning today.
The radio said that details of the attack are yet to be released and that the SLA had fired mortars on civilian areas in Pooneryn, on the mainland across the Jaffna lagoon. Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan Navy said today that the LTTE had fired artillery towards Kilaly from the Pooneryn around midnight and had infiltrated this coast during the shelling, attacking three SLN high speed boats and wounding two sailors. The boats were slightly damaged, said the SLN sources. The Navy said it had monitored LTTE transmissions and claimed that four Tigers, including a senior leader identified as Puwan were killed in the attack.
