Pre-school teachers celebrate teachers’ day in Vavuniya

At the Teachers’ day held at the Suthananda Hindu Youth Union Hall in Vavuniya town Monday, with the support of the Tamils’ Rehabilitation Organization (TRO), more than 350 pre-school teachers from the 24 zonal districts of the Northeast province participated, sources said.
The TRO’s head in Vavuniya, Mr.S. Thirugnanasambandamoorthy, hoisted the TRO’s flag. Mr. S. Ganeshapatham, the deputy director of education for the Vavuniya North pre-school, hoisted the pre-school flag. The TRO’s director of planning, Mr. Lawrence Christie Thilagar, religious dignitaries, Vanni district parliamentarians Mr. Selvam Adaikalanathan and Mr. N. Sivashakthi Anandan, the head of the Liberation Tigers’ political wing in Vavuniya, Mr. S. Ezhilan, The women’s wing political head in Vavuniya, Ms. Alai, Deputy director of education Mrs. Anton Samarajah, and divisional directors for elementary and pre-school education participated at the event. Prizes were distributed to 72 teachers who won in a painting competition, and the winning paintings were displayed in an exhibition declared open by the dean of the college of education in Vavuniya, Mr.K. Bernard, the sources said.
