Additional Magistrate Mallakam, T. Ariyanayagam, released Selliah Navamany, 60, on a 5000Rs (USD 80) bail yesterday. Navamany who is ill and had been receiving treatment at the Jaffna hospital, had been arrested by the SLA for allegedly being in possession of a 'suspicious looking' diagram and had been scheduled to be transferred from the Jaffna prison to the Anuradhapura prison said legal sources in Jaffna.
The Magistrate instructed the court on Wednesday that Navamany may only be shifted to Anuradhapura prison only after her medical report is submitted in court, said legal sources in Jaffna. Navamany fell ill before she was to be shifted from Jaffna to Anuradhapura and admitted to the Jaffna hospital. The counsel for the defence had told the court that since Navamany was sick, she would have to undergo a medical examination and she could not be taken to Anuradhapura until this was done.
