Two soldiers of the Sri Lanka Army were seriously injured Wednesday evening when a private passenger bus crashed into a sentry of the SLA at Nelliyady town in the Vadamaradchi division of the Jaffna district. The injured army
soldiers were on duty at the time of accident inside the sentry point,
police said.
The SLA sentry point, established close to the Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) office at Nelliyady following the attack on the office by civilians last year, was completely
damaged in the crash, police said. The driver of the private passenger bus lost his control when he was
negotiating his way as another vehicle was coming in the opposite direction, and the bus
crashed into the sentry point, police said. The injured soldiers were taken to the army hospital at the Palaly main army
base in the northern peninsula. The bus concerned is in police custody,
police said.
