[TamilNet, Tuesday, 21 October 2003, 12:46 GMT]
Villagers of Uyilankulam, east of Mannar, angered by
the rape of a retarded woman living with her parents
on Saturday night demanded that Sri Lankan Police
posts in the area should be removed forthwith. The
32-year-old woman was admitted to the Anuradhapura
Hospital on Sunday after she was allegedly raped
brutally by two Policemen who had come to buy
cigarettes at her father's shop.
Residents of Uyilankulam who met Mr. Selvam
Adaikalanathan who visited the parents of the woman on
Tuesday urged him to take immediate action to have the
Police posts removed from the area. Meanwhile, Mannar court sources told TamilNet that the
Police are yet to file the first information report (B
Report) on the rape. Villagers alleged that two Policemen who had passed by
the womanís home to drink toddy at a nearby tavern had
observed she was alone and had brutally raped her.
