Trinco SLA, LTTE commanders to meet

[TamilNet, Thursday, 30 October 2003, 14:15 GMT]
The Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Trincomalee district has arranged a meeting between Major General Sunil Tennekon, Sri Lanka Army's General Officer Commanding in the Trincomalee district, and the Liberation Tigers' Trincomalee district military commander, Colonel Pathuman, on Friday evening at the no man zone in Kattaiparichchan in the Muttur division, SLMM sources said.

The no man zone is located beyond the Kattaiparichchan SLA detachment, which is the gateway to LTTE-controlled areas in the Muttur division, sources said.

The meeting is considered a crucial one as tension prevails in Muttur with the killing of two Tamil traders of Raalkuli, by suspected Muslim criminals at Pachchanoor village in the Muttur division which is in the army controlled area, police said

The fresh violence in Muttur broke out last Saturday evening when unknown persons suspected to be Muslim criminals attacked two Tamil civilians when they were going to their village, Mallikaitheivu, civil sources said.

The LTTE has categorically said that its cadres are not involved in any violence in Muttur, Kinniya and Mullipottana, which had taken place in Sri Lankan government-controlled areas. The LTTE has asked the Police and the Sri Lanka Army to take steps to contain the violence in their controlled areas and take action against the culprits irrespective of their nationality, sources said.
