Counselling Home for mentally ill celebrates anniversary

Vettimanai ("Victory Home"), a counselling aid center for mentally ill women, located in the village of Akkarayan, Kilinochchi district, celebrated its twelfth anniversay on Friday afternoon, sources in Vanni said. Victory Home is one of several rehabilitation centers run by the Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO).
Mrs.Pon Thyagam, mother of three LTTE martyrs, lit the ceremonital lamp and Head of Women's Political Wing of Liberation Tigers, Thamilini, hoisted the Tamil Eelam flag. Head of Women's Development and Rehabilitation Center, Ms.Sutharshini and Head of Victory Home, Vanitha hoisted the flag of Victory Home. Ms.Sutharshini presided the event. She detailed the services being rendered to the needy patients looked after in Victory Home and outlined the plans for updating the center's activities to provide higher levels of services. Rev. Father Jeyaseelan and Kilinochchi Government Agent, Rasanayagam, gave welcome speeches. A special publication commomerating the event was released by the Head of Annai Illam, Rev.Father Reginald. Sarauluxmi, the first patient to receive assistance at Victory Home, presented the inaugural copy to Special Commander of Malathy Brigade, Col.Yalini. Cultural events, including performances by those receiving assistance at Victory Home, were later held and the event concluded with prizes being awarded to winners of sports competition that took place earlier in the day.
