New chairman assumes duties at ANCL

New chairman of Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd ( ANCL), Mr. Kesaralal Gunasekara, appointed by President Chandrika Kumaratunge, took over his duties Wednesday night visiting the news paper company with army and police security, sources in Colombo said.
Ms.Kumaratunge sacked former Media Minister Mr.Imtiaz Bakeer Markar this Tuesday. Sri Lanka's President in her televised address on Tuesday explaining her decision to suspend parliament and take control of key areas of Prime Minister Wickramasinghe's government, said,
"I have accordingly decided to take over three areas of government in which I feel urgent corrective action is necessary, namely, the Ministry of Defence, the Ministry of the Interior and the Ministry of Mass Communication, which have an immediate impact on the security situation, while ensuring the media full freedom of expression."
Army's guard the Sri Lankan government owned newspaper firm, The Associated Newspapers of Ceylon Ltd (ANCL) in Colombo today.
