The importance of forming a committee for the advancement of education in the Vanni district was stressed by the Liberation Tigers’ educational and political divisions' leaders, at a meeting of education officials held at the Saiva Prakasa Ladies College in Vavuniya Thursday, sources said.
The Vanni district education head, Mr. Gnanam, deputy head, Mr. Arun Master, political head, Mr. S. Ezhilan, and his deputy, Mr. Senkathir, participated at the meeting. Senior officials of the Sri Lankan government in Vavuniya, academics, school principals and other prominent figures in the district participated at the meeting. Mr. K. Bernard, the dean of the College of Education in Poonthoddam, Vavuniya, was elected to head the committee for the advancement of education. Prominent figures from the educational community were appointed as members of the committee. Subcommittees consisting of five members each were formed for the advancement of technical skills, language skills and athletic skills of the students in the district
