Jaffna’s leading educationist felicitated in Colombo

A leading educationist from the Jaffna peninsula, Mr.K.Arunasalam, was felicitated
on his seventy fifth birthday at an event held at the Wellawatte Sri
Ramakrishna Mission Hall in Colombo Sunday evening. Mr.Arunasalam was the
emeritus Principal of Vaddukoddai Hindu College and Chullipuram Victoria
College in the Jaffna district and Paddiruppu Maha Vidiyalayam in the eastern province for several years, sources said.
The Colombo branch of the Chullipuram Victoria College Old Boys Association
organized this event to honor the services Mr.Arunasalam rendered to the
education and community in the Jaffna district. The leader of the All Ceylon Tamil Congress and the Jaffna district Tamil
National Alliance parliamentarian, Mr.A.Vinayagamoorthy, was the chief guest.
Mr.C.T.Rajendra, President of the OBA presided. A souvenir, compilation of several articles recalling the services of
Mr.Arunasalam had rendered to the educational development of Tamil students
while serving as Principal of leading schools was released at the event. Speakers said that Mr.Arunasalam had fought with courage against the
atrocities committed by security forces when they arrested students without
inquiry during the emergency period in Jaffna peninsula The President of the All Ceylon Hindu Federation, Mr.V.Kailasapillai,
released the first copy of the souvenir. Professor S.Chandrasekaram
reviewed the book. The President of the Colombo Tamil Sangam,
Mr.K.Neelakantan, and ACTC assistant secretary, Mr.N. Kumarakuruparan, also spoke. The vice president of the Colombo Tamil Sangam, Mr.P.Wijeratnam, made the
keynote address.
