The Sri Lanka Police in Jaffna have started collecting information on
vehicles now in the possession of government departments and other state
institutions in the Jaffna district, official sources said.
The police have requested the heads of government departments in the Jaffna
district to furnish details of all vehicles they possess for official use
without delay, sources said. In some instances, some Police officials had gone personally to selected
local government institutions and instructed their heads to submit detailed
statement of vehicles in their custody immediately, sources said. Meanwhile, local government officials said the Police have not taken any
steps to recover official vehicles removed by the members of the Eelam
People’s Democratic Party, when they were in power in some of the local
government bodies before the bodies were dissolved last year with the
expiry of their life term. Local government officials have already lodged
complaints in this regard, sources said.
