SL President, Prime Minister brief their constituent parties

President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge and Prime Minister Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe Thursday began separately briefing their constituent parties in the main opposition People Alliance (PA) and the United National Front (UNF) respectively with regard to the outcome of their talks held Wednesday at the Presidential House on the current political crisis, political sources said.
The Peoples' Alliance led by Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge comprised the Sri Lanka Freedom Party, Lanka Sama Samaja party, Communist party, Mahajana Eksath Peramuna and National Unity Alliance. The ruling UNF led by Mr.Ranil Wickremasinghe comprised the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress, Ceylon Workers Congress, Upcountry Peoples Front and Ashraff Congress, breakaway group of the SLMC, sources said. The President has already started briefing her constituent parties. She met a delegation of the National Unity Alliance delegation led by Ms Ferial Ashraff Wednesday evening. She is due to meet the LSSP and CP Thursday. Meanwhile Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge is scheduled to meet a delegation of the Sinhala nationalist cum Marxist Janatha Vimukthi Peramuna Thursday night at the Presidential House, sources said. Messrs Tilvin Silva, Wimal Weerawanse and Anura Dissanayake will be in the JVP delegation. Talks between them will focus attention on the current political crisis, sources said. The Prime Minister Thursday morning met the delegation of the Sri Lanka Muslim Congress led by Minister Mr.Rauff Hakim.
