[TamilNet, Saturday, 15 November 2003, 12:15 GMT]
Sri Lanka's Parliament will be reconvened as scheduled on 19 November, the
Secretary General of Parliament informed MPs Saturday. The Secretary General's letter ended speculations in Colombo that President Kumaratunga might delay the reconvening of the Parliament.
The letter from the Parliament’s Secretary General, Ms. Priyani Wijesekera, delivered to MPs Saturday states, “the Budget Speech for the year 2004 is scheduled to be delivered by the Hon. Min. of Finance at 2.30 p.m. on the same day." "The first meeting of the second session of the fifth Parliament of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka is scheduled to be held at 10.00 a.m. Wednesday, the 19th November," the letter states. Meanwhile the secretary to the Leader of the Opposition wrote to all Members of the Opposition Group in Parliament that a "resolution will be moved for Parliament to meet on Friday, 28 November, 2003 in order to get Government Business approved by Parliament."
