Trincomalee district goes festive celebrating Heroes' Day

More than three hundred three wheelers participated in a parade held in Trincomalee town Sunday as scheduled. The organizers said the event was arranged to create awareness among Trincomalee residents of the importance of the Great Heroes' Day to the liberation struggle of Tamils.

The three-wheelers first assembled Sunday morning
in the premises of the Trincomalee Hindu Cultural Hall located along the Inner Harbour Road. Later they went in a motorcade
in two directions, one towards traditional Thampalakamam village, about 24
km southwest of Trincomalee town on Trincomalee-Kandy trunk road and the
second one to Nilaveli, about sixteen km north of Trincomalee town, sources
said. Trincomalee TEEDOR head Mr.S.Tharman flagged off the parade at the
children's park in front of the Trincomalee Hindu Cultural Hall. LTTE
Kumburupiddy political head Mr.Sivakumar was present. The Trincomalee traffic police personnel were seen assisting the
three-wheelers parade when it went through the main roads in the town.
Police provided protection to the parade along the routes to Thampalakamam
and Nilaveli, police said.

Earlier a group of students from Trincomalee town schools participated in
shramadana campaign in the Trincomalee general hospital to mark the Great
Heros' Day celebration week. Students cleaned wards and hospital premises. About two hundred resettled families in Kumburupiddy area were issued with
five-coconut seedling each free to mark the Great Heros' Day. Kumburupiddy
LTTE political head Mr.Sivakumar inaugurated this scheme Monday morning ,
sources said. Important junctions in Trincomalee town were seen gaily decorated with
yellow and red flags. However some miscreants had damaged a decorative
structure erected at Anpuvallipuram junction, a suburb in the town. The
matter was immediately brought to the notice of the security officials by
the LTTE sources. The security establishment in the district is reported to
have assured prompt action in regard to this incident, sources said.
