SL Police beefs up security in Trincomalee district

Sri Lanka's President, Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge, Saturday instructed the acting Inspector General of Police, Mr.Indra de Silva, to beef up security
measures in the Trincomalee district and launch immediate investigation
into the killings of three Muslims and other incidents that had taken place
recently in the district, police said.
Consequent to the President's instructions, an additional emergency co-ordinating unit has been set up in the office of the Senior Superintendent of Police in Trincomalee in addition to the emergency information unit now already in
existence. These special units are to monitor all developments pertaining of the security in the Trincomalee district, especially in Chinabay, Kinniya and Muttur divisions, police said. The police have now appealed to the people of the district to convey information regarding any incident in their areas, sources said.
