Members of Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam led by Batticaloa-Amparai
district Head of Political section, E.Kausalyan, met with a delegation
from Sri Lanka's Special Task Force (STF) led by Senior Police Officer
Upul Seneviratne in Akkaraipattu, in Amparai district Monday between
10am and 12noon, security sources in Amparai said.
The LTTE delegation requested the STF officers to remove the
STF camps currently functioning in Thirkovil Hospital and
Kanjirankuda, sources said. Agreeing to this request, the STF delegation informed the LTTE
that the camp in the Thirukovil Hospital will be removed soon
and that Kanjirankuda camp will be relocated to another
location as soon as the work on building the new camp is completed. LTTE delegation expressed its appreciation for the co-operation
extended by the STF personnel during the recently held
Heroes' day events in Amparai, sources said. Although the LTTE delegation expressed regret that the muslim community in
Amparai district still does not trust the LTTE, the delegation said that
LTTE continues to show concern over the plight of muslims and believe
that the difficulties between the two communities can be resolved. Mentioning that the muslim community is not at fault, the LTTE
delegation expressed that the blame falls on
external nefarious elements that are attempting to cause split
between the two communities. The delegation added that the STF should
co-operate with the LTTE to take actions that will bring harmony
between the communities. STF delegations assured their co-operation.
