Members of a committee appointed by Sri Lanka's Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe will attend a conference at Jaffna Secretariat on December 29 to review and prioritize development projects to be carried out in Jaffna district for the year 2004, secretariat sources said.
The committee comprises former defense ministry secretary Mr. Austin Fernando, Mr.S.Sivanandan of Prime Minister's Secretariat, Additional Director General of National Planning Department Mr.S.Mahadevan, North East Provincial Council Chief Secretary Mr.S.Rangarajah, SIHRN Director General Mr.Selvin Irenuess. Departmental heads in Jaffna district would also attend the conference, sources said. Meanwhile Jaffna district Government Agent Mr.S.Pathmanathan has requested all divisional secretaries, district level departmental heads and village level officials to submit their development proposals with the assistance of civil groups to him before 25th December enabling him to table those proposals for discussion at the proposed development conference on December 29th, sources said. The Government Agent has made this appeal following complaints that benefits of most of the development projects so far implemented in the peninsula have not reached the beneficiaries in time, civil sources said.
