Jaffna students to file legal action against UGC

Students in Jaffna district affected by the alleged discrimination in the admission to the Engineering Faculties have decided to file legal action against the University Grant Commission, local media reported.
Affected Jaffna students met onThursday and took the following decisions:
- To bring to the attention of the Jaffna district parliamentarians that the University Grant Commission has descriminated the Jaffna Students by allocating less number places to Engineering admissions than the quota allocated for Jaffna district.
- To pressure the Parliamentarians to pressure UGC to admit the proper number of students as determined by the district quota.
- To obtain legal advice to file court action against the UGC for the alleged discrimination against Jaffna students on Engineering admissions.
The students conveyed their appreciation to the Jaffna University Student Union (JUSU) for supporting their action and requested JUSU's continued support. The students also called on the School Principals' Union and the Ceylon Tamil Teachers Union (CTTU) to support their action and to advice them on future actions.
