Sri Lanka cricket board chairman's alleged accomplice shot in courts

A key suspect in the case against Sri Lanka's cricket board chairman in which he is accused of fraud and criminal links with the underworld was shot dead in Colombo magistrate's court Friday.

Police apprehended the assassin immediately.

The man is an army deserter, Police said.

Mr. Thilanga Sumathipala, the cricketboard chairman, was accused of financing the murdered suspect, an alleged underworld hitman, with board funds to travel abroad on a false passport.
