Accusing Nallaratnam Sivakumar, a Tamil youth from Sorikalmunai in Amparai district, for the disappearance of a Muslim youth seen with him, a vigilante Muslim group arrested Mr. Sivakumar Saturday morning, security sources said. Mr.Sivakumar was later handed over to the Kalmunai Police.
The incident caused fear and tension in the Sorikalmunai 6th Village residents, according to sources. The Muslim youths arrived in two vans and conducted house to house search in Sorikalmunai village before 'arresting' Sivakumar. Groups of Muslim youths were seen in Savalaikadai junction from 10am to late afternoon, frequently going to Sorikalmunai village to question Tamil residents, villagers said. Veeramunai region Head of Liberation Tigers, Pillaivaanan, communicated the seriousness of the incident to I.M.Ibrahim, Head of the Peace Committee. The LTTE head impressed upon Mr.Ibrahim to instruct the Muslim youth to make complaints to the Kalmunai police on disappearances or other criminal activities and not to take the law into their own hands. LTTE head is also working with Kalmunai police to have Mr.Sivakumar released, sources said.
