SLA driver remanded in Vadamaradchy fatal accident

Point Pedro Magistrate Mr.K.Ariyanayagam Monday ordered remand till 26 January for a Lance Corporal of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) who was involved in the incident in which a carpenter of Karaveddy Sinnathurai Sivaneswaran was killed on Saturday in a collision with an army vehicle, legal sources said.
The suspect army driver was arrested by the military police of 52 Brigade
of the SLA located at Varani on Sunday and the suspect was hiding in a camp
in Kapputhoo area in Thenmaradchchi division at that time of arrest. Later
the suspect was handed over to the Nelliyady police in Vadamarachchi
division, police said. The Magistrate rejected the bail application made on behalf of the suspect
by the SLA Monday morning and ordered him to be remanded till January 26. Meanwhile the body of the deceased was handed over to his relatives at the
conclusion the magisterial inquest held at the Point Pedro government base
hospital Sunday evening, medical sources said.
