The Sihala Urumaya (SU) Monday appealed to all political parties in the
south to come forward to oppose channeling foreign aid direct to the
five-year development plan of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam,
according to a report carried by the State controlled Sri Lanka
Broadcasting Corporation in its Monday's late night news bulletin, sources
said.
In a statement issued Monday the SU accused that European Union countries,
international aid agencies and non-governmental organizations for taking steps to provide aid direct to LTTE's development plan. Providing foreign
aid direct or through the government to the LTTE would further strengthen
it militarily, the statement said. "It would also give international recognition to the LTTE to implement its interim administrative proposals and obtain foreign loans directly," said
the SU. The SU stressed that all political parties should come forward disregarding party differences to defeat the conspiracy of the LTTE and safeguard the sovereignty of the country.
