Muttur east education needs identified

North East Provincial Department of Education held a series of seminars and workshops for teachers, principals and parents in the Muttur east in Trincomalee district to uplift the standard of education from January 17th to 19th, education officials said.
Provincial Director of Education Mr.S.Mahalingam and senior education officials participated in the development programme organized to identify the urgent needs of teachers and students in providing good education, sources said. The shortage of teachers for main subjects Mathematics, English language and Science was spotlighted for the low standard of education now prevailing in the Muttur east schools, education officials said. Provincial Deputy Director of Education Ms A.Vethanayagam said provincial department of education has selected twenty education divisions in the northeast province, which have been identified as backward in the sphere of education for special project to be carried out. Muttur east education division was one of the twenty, sources said. Workshops and seminars were held at Chenaiyoor Central College in Muttur east. Teachers who teach students of primary, grade 11 and 12 classes attended the seminars and workshops for three days. A special seminar was held for parents on the final day, January 19at Chenaiyoor Maha Vidiyalaym. Parents with teachers and students from Sampoor Maha Vidiyalayam, Chenaiyoor Central College, Puveneswary Vidiyalayam, Koonitheivu Navalar Vidiyalayam, Kadatkaraichcenai Vidiyalayam and Kattaiparichchan Vipulananda Vidiyalayam participated in the seminar, sources said
