NECORD supplies ambulances to Trinco rural hospitals

The North East Community Restoration Development (NECORD) project has supplied twenty-one ambulances to rural government hospitals in the
northeast province at a cost of about three million rupees. The last
consignment of five ambulances was handed recently handed over the
provincial ministry of health by the NECORD Tuesday, health officials said.

Four ambulances distributed to four rural hospitals in Trincomalee

One ambulance assigned to Jaffna district was dispatched to Maruthankerni
rural hospital in Vadamarachchi division in the Jaffna district direct from
Colombo. The balance four assigned to the Trincomalee district was handed
to the provincial ministry of health Tuesday morning by the NECORD. Provincial Health Ministry Secretary Mr.R.M.S.Ratnayake handed over the
ambulances to Provincial Director of Health Services Dr.V.Kumaravetpillai
and thereafter ambulances were distributed to the authorities of the four
rural hospitals located in Kuchchaveli, Nilaveli, Thampalakamam and Pulmoddai. NECORD Trincomalee district Deputy Project Director Mr.R.Umakanthan,
Deputy Provincial Director of Health Services Dr.A.Y.Abraham and several
health officials participated in the event.
Provincial Health Ministry Secretary Mr.Ratnayake hands over one ambulance to Thampalakamam health department official who accepted it on behalf of Thampalakamam hospital. NECORD District Deputy Director Mr.R.Umakanthan,Provincial Director of Health Dr.Kumaravetpillai, PDHS Dr.Abraham and North East Coastal Community Development ( NECCDEP ) Project Director Mr.S.M.Croos are also seen Asian Development Bank (ADB) funded NECORD project focuses its activities
on education, health, shelter, water supply and sanitation, agriculture,
irrigation, fisheries, skills development, livelihood assistance, income
generation and minor roads in the northeast province. The project operates
in all eight administrative districts of the northeast province, sources said.
