NorthEast to get 1000 more Tamil medium teachers

The Ministry of Human Resources Development, Education and Cultural Affairs has decided to recruit another batch of one thousand Tamil medium teachers from advanced leveled qualified persons to fill the vacancies exist in the northeast Tamil medium schools, Provincial Education Ministry Secretary Mr.R.Thiagalingam said Friday.
The line ministry has sent a request to the Treasury for necessary financial allocation to implement its decision and is awaiting Treasury’s approval to call for applications, Mr.Thiagalingam said.
These one thousand Tamil medium teachers will be recruited in addition to one thousand Tamil medium teachers with A/L qualification for which applications have been called from qualified persons by a gazette notification of December 12 last year, Mr.Thiagalingam said.
Meanwhile the Line Ministry of Education Friday issued an amended gazette notification accommodating the requests of the Ceylon Tamil Teachers Association and Tamil parliamentarians that the competitive examination to recruit one thousand Tamil medium teachers with A/L qualifications to fill vacancies in the northeast Tamil medium schools should be held in all districts of the northeast province. The earlier gazette notification said the competitive examination would be held only in Colombo.
According to the amended gazette notification competitive examination would be held in Jaffna, Mullaitivu, Killinochchi, Mannar, Vavuniya, Trincomalee, Batticaloa and Amparai in addition to Colombo. Applicants now can send in their applications for ten categories of teachers instead of five stipulated in the earlier gazette notification published in December, sources said.
The ten categories are Science, Mathematics, Primary education, English, Music, dance, Art, Agriculture, Home Science and Physical Education. The age limit should be minimum 18 and maximum 35 as at 01st December 2003, the amended gazette notification said.
