SLN soldier found dead with gunshot wounds

Prashanth Wijewardene from Bandarawela who was manning Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) Ganjadeva Navy Brigade sentry in Karainagar, Jaffna, was found dead with gunshot wounds to his head around 5.45am Monday, local media reports in Jaffna said.

Jaffna District Court Additional Judge, M.Thirunavukarasu visited the site of the incident Monday noon and conducted investigations, reports said.

Head of the Northern Region Sri Lanka Navy, Liyanage Upul Nisanka said, they heard gunshot a noise Monday early morning. When the soldiers rushed to the sentry, they saw the body of Wijewardene, with his hands hugging the gun, lying on the ground.

Sources said that Wijewardene joined the Karainagar Brigade three months ago and got married only recently.

Judge Thirunavukarasu ordered the body to be sent to Colombo for postmortem examinations.
