Pt. Pedro fishermen bring in poaching Indians

[TamilNet, Wednesday, 11 February 2004, 17:49 GMT]
Fishermen in Pt. Pedro in Jaffna brought ashore and detained eleven Indians who were poaching in the northern peninsula's maritime zone Wednesday night.

Two trawlers in which they were poaching were also brought to the coast off Inparutty, an outskirt of Pt. Pedro town. Sri Lanka army troops in the area intervened to release the Indian fishermen, but were unsuccessful. Inparutty fishermen insisted that they would talk about the Indian poachers only with Sri Lanka truce monitors and the Police in Jaffna.

Sources in Inparutty said more Indian trawlers and fishermen have been captured at sea for poaching Tuesday and Wednesday.
