Constable caught molesting a pregnant woman

A Sri Lankan Police constable who attempted to rape a 3 month pregnant woman in Thinneveli in Jaffna last night around 8.30 p.m. was caught and severely assaulted by a group of local civilians.

The Police constable had forced his way in to the house of Tharmarajah Balachandran and had attempted to molest his wife Premalatha Balachandran, 28.

The constable assaulted Balachandran and Premalatha's aunt who had tried to stop him from raping the woman who is a mother of 3 children and 3 month pregnant.

However, neighbours have rushed to Balachandran's house upon hearing the screens of Premalatha's aunt.

The constable, seeing the crowd ran away and hid in a manioc plantation nearby. When the neighbours went and searched for him, he assaulted several of them, but he was overpowered.

The constable was tied to a pillar and was severely assaulted by the people.

The matter was later brought to the notice of Police in Kopai who took away the constable.

Balachandran, his wife and wife's aunt are admitted to the Jaffna hospital with injuries.
