Last ditch attempt to get 'rising sun' for TNA fails

A last ditch attempt by the Tamil United Liberation Front to secure the rising sun symbol for the Tamil National Alliance failed when the Court of Appeal Thursday directed the party's secretary general and senior vice president to make written submissions regarding their appeal to set aside the interim injunction of the Colombo district court preventing them from convening party meetings without the written permission of Mr. V. Ananandasangaree, president of the TULF on 24 February, the last day of nominations for Sri Lanka's general elections in April.
The Appeal Court order hit the last nail on the TULF's efforts to have the TNA contest the April elections under its banner. On further submission made by Mr. Anandasangaree the Colombo District Court
on February 11 extended its enjoining order issued in December last year to
an interim injunction preventing Mr.Sampanthan and Mr.Jospeh Pararajasingham from convening the central working committee and the general council of the TULF without prior permission of Mr.Anandasangaree and also from conducting party activities without consulting party
president. Mr.Sampanthan and Mr.Joseph Pararajasingham filed an appeal in the Court of Appeal last Monday seeking to vacate the interim injunction order made by the Colombo District Court against them.
