SLRC renovates Trinco welfare centres with UNHCR funds

Trincomalee district branch of the Sri Lanka Red Cross (SLRC) is renovating four welfare centres in the Trincomalee district with one million rupees allocated by the United Nations High Commission for Refugees (UNHCR) in Sri Lanka. The four welfare centres are located in Jinnah Nagar,
Nilaveli, Periya Vilankulam and Namalwatte in the Trincomalee district, SLRC sources said.
1185 persons of 244 displaced families have been living under trying
condition in the four welfare centers since 1990 following the outbreak of
violence in the Trincomalee district, sources said. SLRC Trincomalee district office has provided cardboard materials to 31
families in Jinnah Nagar welfare centre to put up enclosure to ensure
privacy for each family in a paddy store building, which is being used as
welfare centre, sources said. Cadjans (dried coconut leaves) have been provided to 113 families staying
at Nilaveli welfare centre and thirteen families in Namalwatte with roofing
materials and common wells have also been provided to these centres.
Members of all three communities are staying in these centres waiting
resettlement in their lands in the district, SLRC sources said.
