Sampanthan concludes Jaffna election campaign

[TamilNet, Thursday, 25 March 2004, 00:46 GMT]
Tamil National Alliance (TNA) leader Mr.R.Sampanthan appealed to Jaffna district Tamil voters to return TNA candidates in all nine Jaffna parliamentary seats in the forthcoming general election while addressed several election meetings in the Jaffna district Tuesday. He left Jaffna by road Wednesday morning to Pulmoddai, a Muslim village in the Trincomalee district for election campaign, sources said

Addressing a meeting in Vadamaradchchi, Mr.Sampanthan said the government in Colombo has signed a ceasefire agreement with the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) because of LTTE's military power.

The ceasefire agreement signed two years ago was between the leaders of two nations in the island, said Mr.Sampanthan.

“The forthcoming general election is not an ordinary one and it should be considered as a referendum on support of the Tamil people in NorthEast to Interim Self Governing Authority proposal submitted by the LTTE,”said Mr.Sampanthan.

Earlier he met the Jaffna based journalists at the headquarters of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) in Jaffna town.
