SLA-LTTE firefight in Pashaiyoor

A firefight between the Liberation Tigers and the Sri Lankan army erupted near the Pashaiyoor jetty in Jaffna town in the early hours of the morning today around 1 a.m said sources in Jaffna.
No details of the clash were known this morning. According to some unconfirmed reports the fighting had erupted when the army had intercepted an attempt by the LTTE to land at the Pashaiyoor jetty. Pashaiyoor fishermen did not set out to sea this morning, fearing retaliation. The SL army, meanwhile, had fired upon seeing the movement of some persons ahead of its bunkers at Allaarai in Kodikamam in Jaffna around 1.30 a.m. in the early hours of the morning today killing one. The body of this person was handed over by the SLA to the Sri Lankan Police at Chavakachcheri this morning. The body of the person estimated to be 30 years of age was handed over to the Jaffna hospital this evening. Yogenthiran Ratheeskumar of Urumpirai east in Jaffna lost his right leg below the knee this afternoon around 1.20 p.m. when an APLM on which he stepped exploded.
