Further details emerged from the Vanni today about the Sri Lankan Air Force (SLAF) bombing of Vattakkachchi and Kandawalai, villages east of Paranthan in Kilinochchi. Eight civilians were killed and many were wounded when SLAF Kfir jets bombed Vattakkachchi and Periyakulam yesterday.

The Kfir jets had dropped five 250 KG bombs on the house of Velayutham in Periyakulam in old Vattakkachchi.

Five civilians were killed and more than eight were wounded in the explosions. Velayutham's house was completely destroyed.

Another SLAF Kfir jet dropped three 250 KG bombs on house of Sellappah Thangavel which is near the Kandawalai divisional secretariat office in Velikkandal.

Sellappah Thangavel and his wife Sivapakkiyam were blown to pieces in the explosions said foreign NGO sources who inspected the carnage yesterday.

The Ministry of Defence (MoD) said in a press release yesterday that SLAF jets bombed and destroyed a LTTE forward base.

"Vehicles inclusive of tractors and a few thatched huts were completely destroyed due to the air attack", the MoD press release said.
