LTTE team completes assessment of development in East

The team of political and administrative heads of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam, led by the deputy head of the political division, Mr. S. Thangan, which visited the Batticaloa-Amparai district to assess development needs and activities, completed its assessment and returned to the Vanni Wednesday morning, sources said.

The Sri Lanka Army provided protection to the team from the Chenkalady Black Bridge SLA camp to the Omanthai SLA check point, north of Vavuniya.

The LTTE’s special commander for Batticaloa-Amparai, Col. Ramesh, and Deputy commander, Mr.Ram, also joined the team in its visit to the Vanni, the sources said.

The visiting team from the Vanni had wide-ranging consultations with local political, military and administrative leaders on development activities in the region and on improving relations with the public.

The team included the head of LTTE Women’s Political Wing, Ms. Thamilini, Director of Tamils Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) , Mr. Reggie, the Coordinator of Non-Governmental Organizations, Mr. Thiyagarajah, and TRO officials Messrs. Naren and Chandru.
