A top level conference is scheduled to be held in Colombo in the office of Ministry of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources on May 27th and 28th to explore the possibilities of stopping poaching in Sri Lankan northern territorial waters. Earlier this conference was to be held in Jaffna but later it has been shifted to Colombo, fisheries sources said.

Ten-member delegation of ten fisheries co-operative federations, each for one federation, in the Jaffna district has been nominated to attend the Colombo conference. Jaffna University Professor Dr.A.Soosai Anandan and an official of the Jaffna district Fisheries Department would also attend the conference, sources said.

Representatives of ten fisheries societiesí federations in the Jaffna district Saturday met at the office of the SEDEC in Jaffna and decided that the government authorities concerned should not allow poaching in the Sri Lankan northern waters for any reason. ì On this basis our delegation would participate in the Colombo talks,î said a member of the ten member of the delegation.

The SEDEC organization has invited a delegation of the Tamilnadu Ramanathapuram Fisheries Society to attend this Colombo conference, sources said.
