Major Sooriyan's memorial opened in Kopay

Memorial stone for Major Sooriyan, Navendran Kamalendran of Columbuthurai, Jaffna, who died due to injuries suffered during an incident at Mullativu seas on 1st May 2002, was ceremonially opened at the Kopay Heroes cemetary Sunday at 5.30pm, local media reported.

Parents of Maj.Sooriyan lit the freedom lamp and paid floral tribute to their son's picture.

Administrative Head of Jaffna district Liberation Tigers, Thamil Maravan presided the event. Political Head of Sea Tigers' Women's Wing, Purani, Jaffna district Head of Political Wing, Cheliyan, and Jaffna district TNA Member of Parliament, S.Gajendran, spoke.

Brothers of Maj.Sooriyan unveiled the memorial stone during the ceremony.

Meanwhile, memorial stone for another member of Sea Tigers, Major Atchuthan, who was killed in the same incident in Mullaitivu seas, was ceremonially opened at the Mulangavil Heroes cemetary Sunday.

Head of LTTE Administration in Nanttan region, Ilavalagan presided the event. Parents of Maj.Atchuthan lit the freedom lamp and unveiled the memorial stone of their son.

Laxman, Commander of Sea Tigers lit the ceremonial lamp. The event concluded with an eulogy by Director of Sea Tigers' Heroes cemetaries, Sutharson, reports said.
